Federal investigators have arrested two men for the 2002 murder of hip-hop star Jam Master Jay, one of the original members of Run-DMC, the Associated Press reports.
Ronald Washington and Karl Jordan Jr. are both in prison for other charges: Washington for a string of robberies and Jordan for distribution of cocaine.
Jay was shot in the head while working in a recording studio. Prosecutors say the murder was related to a cocaine deal gone bad, with Jordan killing Jay while Washington kept other people captive. Both were wearing masks during the murder.
Jam Master Jay, whose real name was Jason “Jay” Mizell, formed 1980s hip-hop sensation Run-DMC with Joseph “Run” Simmons and Darryl “DMC” McDaniel. Their hits included “It’s Tricky,” “Christmas in Hollis” and the Aerosmith remake collaboration “Walk This Way” as one of the early leaders in the rap genre.
