During a press gaggle with Iraq Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi at the White House, President Trump said “I wasn’t involved in the project. I don’t know who was,” regarding the “We Build The Wall” project for which Steve Bannon was indicted Thursday was done without his endorsement.
Speaking of Bannon’s arrest, Trump said, “It’s a sad event. I haven’t dealt with him at all now for years, literally years.” Bannon worked in the White House until August 2017, and he was appointed to a position on the National Security Council by Trump.
Trump’s claim that he didn’t know anything about the “We Build The Wall” project is undermined by history. Kris Kobach, the head of Trump’s abandoned voter fraud task force, was one of the organizers of the effort. Kobach gave a statement to the New York Times in January 2019 that the project had Trump’s blessing.
