After seeing coronavirus hospitalizations spike 75% in the previous weeks, the premier of the Canadian province of Ontario will implement a province-wide lockdown December 26th, the Washington Post reports.
Canada’s most populous province, Ontario will maintain the lockdown for 14 days for the entire region, but the southern, more densely-populated area will stay locked down until January 23rd.
Ontario had attempted to use smaller, less intrusive, more targeted efforts to control the coronavirus, but those efforts failed to contain the spread and impact of the pandemic.
Gatherings will be limited to those in one’s households. Schools will go to all-remote learning. Non-essential retail stores will be ordered closed, and restaurants will be limited to carry-out orders only.
