Facebook has temporarily banned ads for gun accessories and paramilitary gear in the run-up to the Biden-Harris inauguration, saying they’re exercising “an abundance of caution” to prevent potential violence from right-wing extremists, USA Today reports.
“We already prohibit ads for weapons, ammunition and weapon enhancements like silencers. But we will now also prohibit ads for accessories such as gun safes, vests and gun holsters in the US,” Facebook announced in a blog post.
Facebook has been cracking down on incendiary content, particularly regarding the “Stop the Steal” conspiracy that led to a coup attempt at the Capitol January 6th, resulting in 5 deaths.
