In a recent White House Press Conference, President Biden noted that his administration recently passed legislation outlawing surprise medical bills, and has seen record job growth over the course of the past year. In that time, the Republican Party has thrown temper tantrums over Mr. Potato Head and Big Bird, and become increasingly blatant about their love of white supremacists.
The same Republican Party who complained that Bill Clinton’s indiscretions in the Oval Office mean every Democrat should resign from government in shame, now insist it’s “no big deal,” that Florida Representative Matt Gaetz is alleged to have thrown drug-fueled orgies with teen prostitutes that included a number of prominent Florida Republicans, possibly even including current Florida Governor and prospective 2024 GOP Presidential contender Ron DeSantis.
At the same time that the US is facing a possible military showdown with Russia, GOP Representative Madison Cawthorne has appeared on multiple conservative propaganda outlets to sing the praises of the Russian military, and insist that they are an overwhelming force that will beat the US.
To make matters worse, the draft Executive Order written for the defeated former guy by his team of ridiculous hack lawyers was recently published by Politico after said former guy’s hand-picked Federalist Society judges decided even they weren’t going to risk impeachment by siding with his efforts to block the January 6th committee from seeing records of White House communications that day.
Right now, the only thing holding up the GOP is a cabal of media outlets that are either so cowed by Trump’s four years of attacks on the media that they’re afraid to properly call out the GOP for the outrageous shit-show they’ve turned into, or they are complicit actors in an attempt to try to promote the return of the “Outrage Presidency” (Thanks to Professor Jen Mercieca for that awesome phrase that I find myself using all the time lately) so they can revel in another four years of easy ad revenues.
As I’ve mentioned in earlier essays, the 2022 mid-terms will come down to whether or not Democrats can effectively leverage modern media’s “conflict driven engagement” model by feeding the American people a steady diet of dirt on the January 6th investigation and other GOP scandals. The other thing that Democrats need to do a better job of is not putting all their eggs in that one January 6th basket. The modern day Republican Party is a complete shit-show, and Democrats need to be aggressively reminding the American people of that fact every single day.
