A Maryland woman fishing off the Florida coast was stabbed in the groin by a 100-pound swordfish that another member of her party had hooked and was trying to bring onboard the boat, the Associated Press reports.
The woman, from Arnold, Maryland outside Annapolis, told police the incident happened so quickly she couldn’t get out of the way, and no one on the boat had a sword of their own to repel the thrust. As two companions tried to reel in the fish, the swordfish reportedly swam quickly toward the boat and leaped into the boat, in an apparent attempt to take out one of the humans.
More than two miles off the coast of Stuart, Florida, her fellow boaters applied pressure to the wound and returned to shore, where the woman got medical care and is expected to fully recover with a story no one will believe until she will show them her scar. The condition of the swordfish was not reported.
