A Republican-turned-Independent candidate for the US Senate seat from Missouri announced he’s withdrawing from the race, saying there’s no potential way for him to win, the Associated Press reports.
John Wood, who worked as an investigator for the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th Republican-led domestic terrorist attack on Congress, initially entered the race when former GOP Governor Eric Greitens was leading the polls; Wood said Greitens was “unacceptable” as a candidate.
Wood’s withdrawal sets the race against Republican Attorney General Eric Schmitt and Democratic nominee Trudy Busch Valentine, who are looking to take the seat being vacated by a retiring Roy Blunt.
