Stephen Ayres, the misdemeanor defendant Ohio Capitol rioter who testified to the House January 6th Select Committee during a July hearing, was sentenced Thursday to two years probation for his non-violent/non-destructive role in the riot, CBS’s Scott MacFarlane reports.
One thing we did not note at the time of his testimony was that Ayres was listed as a co-defendant with another rioter we’ve covered – Matthew Perna, a Pennsylvania rioter who committed suicide back in February. It’s not clear why Perna faced 20 years in prison when he killed himself after pleading guilty, or how they came to be associated with each other in the DOJ’s investigation.
