In a meeting earlier this month at the Israeli embassy in DC, coalition of Jewish-American business leaders earlier this month warned that the inevitable extremism of the incoming Netanyahu regime will cause an even further cratering of support for Israel among American Jews, Axios reports.
The meeting hosted by Shuli Davidovich, the head of the Israeli Foreign Ministry bureau for the diaspora, was reportedly pretty tense, with one major sticking point being an expected severe curtailment of Israeli immigration law, which currently allows for Israeli citizenship for anyone who can prove at least one Jewish grandparent, plus their spouse, whether they identify as ethnically and/or religiously Jewish or not. Then there’s Netanyahu’s coalition partners, several of whom are even more racist and extremist than him, including at least one hardcore anti-LGBT politician.
“We said we were there to warn them that it could be really bad and they should be aware of it,” said one attendee, who told Davidovich to expect round-the-clock protests outside the embassy led by liberal American Jews should any major new crackdowns on human rights in Israel occur.
