Des Moines, Iowa meteorologist Chris Gloninger on Wednesday announced he was leaving local CBS affiliate KCCI – and the TV news business altogether – in part due to a threat from a MAGA terrorists accusing him of pushing propaganda about climate change, the Des Moines Register reports.
“18 years. 7 stations. 5 states. I am bidding farewell to TV to embark on a new journey dedicated to helping solve the climate crisis. After a death threat stemming from my climate coverage last year and resulting PTSD, in addition to family health issues, I’ve decided to begin this journey now.” Gloninger said in a statement. A Lenox, Iowa man was fined $105 in September 2022 for writing “You are worthless Biden puppet, a liar, a conspiracy theorist, and an idiot!!! You give Iowa a bad name, GO HOME BITCH,” and other shit in emails to Gloninger. It’s not clear if the asshole also wrote the threat that prompted the weatherman to quit, but the writer was not alone in his negative feedback.
