Officials in the tiny Indian Ocean archipelago nation of the Comoros on Saturday said President Azali Assoumani is “out of danger” after he was injured on Friday in a knife attack by a 24 year-old policeman – and that the policeman was found dead in his jail cell this morning, Reuters reports.
“The president is doing well. He has no health problems, he is out of danger. A few stitches were given,” Comoros energy minister Aboubacar Said Anli said at a press conference in the capital city of Moroni on Saturday, a day after Assoumani was slashed during a funeral in the nearby town of Salimani Itsandra. The attacker, Officer Ahmed Abdou, is not so okay however. He got Epsteined.
“This Saturday morning, when investigators went to see him, they found him lying on the ground, his body was lifeless,” said Comoros’ public prosecutor, Ali Mohamed Djounaid, at a separate press conference, adding that there would be an investigation into how Abdou died. Djounaid did not offer even the barest of specifics on the state of Abdou’s remains, like if he had slashed his wrists, swallowed a hidden cyanide pill, choked on a chicken bone, had his skull caved in, was hanging from the ceiling by a bed sheet but it snapped and that’s why he was on the floor, or whatever else.
However that none of these officials seem all that concerned could be an indication that the dude acted alone and it was the jail guards simply saving prosecutors the paperwork. Or they were in on the attack themselves and they were tying up a loose end who could implicate them. Fun mystery!
