A lot of Netflix users will be in for a shock next year when their access to their ex-girlfriend (three girlfriends ago) account gets blocked as part of the company’s coming crackdown on people who share their access, CNBC reports.
In its quarterly earnings notice, Netflix announced it gained 2.4 million new users last quarter, more than doubling the expected figure of one million. The largest region of growth for the streaming service was Asia and the Far East, with the US and Canada only accounting for 100,000 net new subscribers.
Starting next year, Netflix will stop multiple people from sharing the same account outside a single household. The company said it would offer people using others’ accounts opportunities to keep their current account content when signing up for an authorized separate account. Account holders will also be able to pay for subaccounts for people who live outside their household.
