Speaker of the House pro tem Kevin McCarthy won his first major challenge of his likely short stint as Speaker, with the Rules Package he negotiated with far-right nihilists Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert by a 220-213 vote, with one Republican voting with Dems, the Washington Post reports.
In a House where Republicans have already demonstrated a penchant for chaos, the Rule Package allows for a single member to call for a recall vote for the Speaker at any time for any reason. With just a slim four-vote margin, McCarthy cannot afford to piss off any faction of his fragmented Party.
