Affable suburban “Diet MAGA” Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin is shaking in his vest over the fear that voters in the Old Dominion State, home to 140,000 federal workers and scores more whose businesses depend on government contracts, will take their anger over the upcoming and all-but-certain shutdown out on state Republican legislative candidates this November, Axios reports.
“In these Northern Virginia districts, a shutdown is just not helpful,” said Republican former Congressman Tom Davis. “We saw that in the government shutdown in 2013 – it killed [2013 Republican gubernatorial candidate] Ken Cuccinelli” who ended up losing by 2.6 percent.
At least 30 percent of Axios’s article is dedicated to what the shutdown’s effect on the November elections means for Youngkin’s all-but non-existent 2024 presidential ambitions. “It’s possible for Youngkin to get in the race after Virginia’s Nov 7 elections, though it would mean missing the filing deadlines for early presidential contests in states such as Nevada and South Carolina,” they write as though they actually still believe it’s really happening, seriously what the fuck lol. The site nails great scoops all the time but the constant both-siderism, laundering of MAGA bullshit, keeping punchably-faced political editor Josh Kraushaar on the payroll, and of course this bizarre Youngkin 2024 fixation have all but completely eclipsed our good will and gratitude toward them as a source.
