Supreme Court Justices received more than $4.7 million in gifts over the last ten years, with one specific justice–you can’t imagine who!–accounting for more than 80% of value, an analysis by the watchdog group FixTheCourt reports. The group looked at official records and filings required by federal rules, and it also combed public records for other evidence of unreported or misreported gifts.
Justice Clarence Thomas accounted for only one-third of the total gifts, but those gifts came to a total value of $4,042,286, roughly 80% the cumulative value of all gifts received from 2004 through 2023 by the 17 people who served on the Court, $4,755,147. The runners-up: Antonin Scalia, who died in 2016, with $210,164, and neighborhood terrorist Samuel Alito with $170,095.
