UPDATE (10:07 p.m. ET): Leahy was released from the hospital around 8:30 p.m. and returned home with no complications.
Senate President pro tempore, the Democratic Senator from Vermont is is the senior Democrat in the chamber, was taken to the hospital Tuesday evening after reportedly feeling unwell, according to Trish Turner of ABC News.
“‘This evening, Sen Leahy was in his Capitol office and was not feeling well. He was examined in the Capitol by the Attending Physician. Out of an abundance of caution, the Attending Physician recommended that he be taken to a local hospital for observation, where he is…now, and where he is being evaluated.’ -David Carle, Leahy spox” reported in a tweet.
Leahy is scheduled to oversee the Senate impeachment trial of Donald Trump, scheduled to start in two weeks.
