Nine New York Congressional Democrats have called for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to resign in the face of mounting sexual harassment charges, Axios reports.
House Judiciary chair Jerry Nadler, House Oversight chair Carolyn Maloney, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jamal Bowman, Mondaire Jones, Grace Meng, Yvette Clark, Adriano Espaillat and Nydia Velasquez said Cuomo should step down. Kathleen Rice had previously stated she wanted Cuomo to resign.
Although Congress has no authority to remove a governor, the House members join a growing chorus of New York Democrats on the state and local level calling for Cuomo to leave office.
Six women have come forward to make allegations that Cuomo said inappropriate things to them or touched them inappropriately. Cuomo denies the charges and has apologized for his behavior.
