Twenty-five states have reached the milestone of having half of the adults fully vaccinated according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CNN reports.
Only four of the 25 states voted for Donald Trump in the 2020 election, showing the stark difference in promotion of the vaccines between traditional “red,” conservative states and Democratic-run states.
The states that have reached the 50% threshold are: Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Virginia, Washington state and Wisconsin.
At 63%, Maine leads the US in the percentage of states with adults fully vaccinated. According to the CDC, 61.3% of adults nationally have received at least one dose of the available vaccines, and 49.6% are fully vaccinated.
“Across the country, cases of Covid-19, serious illness and loss of life are all down dramatically,” White House senior Covid-19 adviser Andy Slavitt said during a briefing on Friday. “And they can be brought down even further and the risk of a future wave in your community significantly reduced if we keep up the pace of vaccinations.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, Mississippi has the lowest percentage of the population with at least one vaccination, with 33.2% getting one dose and just 28.7% fully vaccinated.
