“The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has issued fines to two passengers arriving in Toronto from the United States the week of July 18, 2021, for non-compliance with entry requirements. Each traveller received four fines – a total of $19,720 for each traveller [$15,830 in American dollars] for providing false information related to proof of vaccination credentials and pre-departure tests, as well as, for non-compliance with the requirement to stay at a government-authorized accommodation and on-arrival testing requirements.”

“The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) works closely with domestic and international partners to detect and intercept fraudulent documents. The CBSA also works with PHAC to ensure only valid proof of vaccine documents are accepted. Violating any quarantine or isolation instructions provided to travellers when entering Canada is also an offence under the Quarantine Act and could lead to a $5,000 fine for each day of non-compliance or for each offence committed, or more serious penalties, including six months in prison and/or $750,000 in fines. For all travellers coming to Canada, it is important to be informed and to plan in advance. It is the traveller’s responsibility to ensure they are eligible to enter Canada and that they meet all of the mandatory requirements.
