The federal judge in Alaska on Wednesday revoked permits for a ConocoPhillips oil development on the North Slope in Alaska because the government never properly assessed the project’s impact on climate change, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The Willow Project has the support of the Biden Administration, as it had with the previous administration. U.S. District Judge Sharon Gleason, an Obama appointee, apparently agreed with a argument from a group of environmental groups that the Bureau of Land Management did not due a sufficient assessment of the project’s short- and long-term impact on climate change and global temperatures.
The Willow Project would add 160,000 barrels per day during its 30 year license.
