Fresh off the disappointment of Terry McAuliffe losing the gubernatorial election Tuesday night, Democrats are facing another setback in the Old Dominion state: the likelihood that they’re going to lose control of the House of Delegates.
With the decided seats in the 100-seat house evenly split at 45 to each party, ten seats remain undecided. According to the New York Times election tracker, Republicans are leading in six of the ten undecided races.
Democrats will still hold a majority in the Virginia senate–barely. Democrats have 21 seats in the Senate, with Republicans controlling 19 (including one with a GOP-caucusing independent). The next election for the state senate is 2024, when all the seats in the chamber will be up for election.
