Otero County, New Mexico commissioner and “Cowboys for Trump” founder Couy Griffin was sentenced to two weeks in jail, a $3,000 fine plus $500 restitution, and one year of probation for entering restricted grounds outside of the Capitol during the January 6th MAGA insurrection, Politico’s Kyle Cheney reports. DC Circuit Court Judge Trevor McFadden said Griffin’s comments since he was convicted undercut his claims of remorse, adding his conduct overall has been in “grave tension” with his oath as an elected official. Speaking of which, Griffin still plans to vote against certifying the results of the June 7th primary in Otero County during the commission’s emergency meeting on the matter later Friday (Griffin appeared in the DC court via Zoom).
