Republican former South Carolina state Representative RJ May III, aka “joebidennnn69” has agreed to plead guilty to five federal counts of distributing sexual abuse material involving children and will do so formally on Monday, just over a week before he was set to go on trial, The State reports.
May, 38, is the father of two young children, the co-founder of the South Carolina state House’s Freedom Caucasians caucus, and the 2023 recipient of Moms for Liberty’s Legislator of the Year Award for his anti-“groomer” rhetoric. Not making that up. Out of approximately 8,074 federal, state, and territorial-level legislators in the United States theoretically eligible for the award that year, the one guy the insufferable MAGA Karen group chose to honor as their champion against “grooming” turned out to be, according to DHS, “he has a sexual interest in children the same age as his own children,” that he has “a sexual interest in incest” between young children and their parents, and had filmed himself in encounters with underage sex trafficking victims in hotel rooms in Colombia.
Of course having been born on the internet, Moms for Liberty did a pretty good job of scrubbing their site and social media profiles of any mentions of not just May but of that particular award itself, so it’s not clear who the 2022, 2024, and 2025 laureates would’ve been, if there were any. It could’ve just been a one-time thing. Either way it’s still an ugly stain for the group in the minds of the kind of people who read this site and approximately zero others elsewhere on the political spectrum.
