Apparently, we haven’t come close to hitting peak 2020 yet.
Headless sea lions are being found along the west coast of Canada, apparently decapitated by scroungers looking to profit from a blackmarket in the animal carcasses or cover up crimes, according to a report by thestar.com.
Animal abuse is a serious crime in Canada, and poachers will take the heads of the animals to hide signs of gunshots or other injuries.
Other people will harvest the heads to collect up to $4,000 (Canadian) from collectors. One member of a local Native tribe said he’s received more than 120 emails from taxidermists looking for sea lion skulls.
