Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum attempted to compare slavery with abortion in an appearance on CNN this morning, resulting in CNN analyst Bakari Sellers rightfully embarrassing the republican former politician.
After Sellers commented that he had a difficult time rectifying George Washington and other Founding Fathers label as “great men” while being slave owners, Santorum jumped in to say he has the same feeling regarding politicians who support abortion.
“I have a hard time reconciling people who are allowing people to be killed in the womb, but you know what, I do, and we all do,” Santorum said according to a report on Raw Story. “And we all have to reconcile things that we have differences about.”
Sellers was having none of it: “Slavery and abortion are not the same things,” he said as Santorum repeated tried to counter with “Yes it is!”
“That’s like apples and bobcats,” Sellers replied. “There’s nothing the same about slavery and abortion… If there is a mother who is about to die or if she is raped or the victim of incest and she makes a decision, Rick, that’s not the same thing as dragged over here against your will!”
The 62 year old Santorum was a Pennsylvania Senator from 1995 to 2007, when he lost reelection by a 17 percentage-point margin. Columnist Dan Savage has appropriated Santorum’s name to mean “the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex.”
