The Trump Administration has selected Jacksonville, Florida–the chosen site of Trump’s acceptance speech for the republican nomination–as one of three pilot cities for a program to surge coronavirus testing.
Officials claim that the selection of the city that will host the Republican National Convention was purely coincidental, reports ABC News.
The program will provide tens of thousands of free coronavirus tests to the population of Jacksonville in the weeks before the convention. Edinburg, Texas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana were also selected for testing.
“I’m going to show you about my political knowledge: I had no idea that the Republican convention was even in Jacksonville, until I called the state health officer and we started talking about that and he called me. So that shows you where my mind is,” Giroir said in the ABC report.
