According to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus tracker, one percent of the United States population has now tested positive for coronavirus.
Overnight, the JHU site flipped past the milestone, registering more than 3.3 million cases this morning. The US population is approximately 328 million.
The US has 80% more reported cases than the next most-infected nation on the list, Brazil, although Brazil has 2/3rds the population of the US. The US continues to lead in the daily tally of new cases, with the 7-day running average of cases increasing for 33 consecutive days.
On February 26th, when the nation had 15 documented cases, President Trump declared that the United States would have “close to zero cases… in a couple days.”
To date, more than 135,000 have died of the coronavirus in the United States during the pandemic.
