More than 30 people attended the presentation of the Medal of Freedom to former Congressman and Olympian Jim Ryun by President Trump, but no one attending the Blue Room ceremony wore a face mask or adhered to social distancing guidelines, according to the Washington Post.
The 73-year-old republican from Kansas, who competed in track and field in the 1964, 1968 and 1972 Olympics, won a silver medal at the 1968 games in Mexico City in the 1,500 meter race.
The people in the room to watch the ceremony were not adhering to the 6-foot recommendation and no one was seen donning a face mask in photos of the event.
On the Washington Post website, one person at the ceremony appears to be presidential advisor Stephen Miller.
Yesterday in an interview with Sean Hannity, Trump said that if there was a “5%, [or] 2% chance” of stopping the spread of the virus by wearing a facemask, people should do it.
