“Hanna made landfall on Padre Island, Texas, Saturday at 5 p.m. CT, according to the National Hurricane Center” CNN reported Saturday.
“Hanna, the first hurricane of the season in the Atlantic, had sustained winds of 90 mph, making it a high-end Category 1 hurricane. The storm went through a rapid intensification on Saturday, meaning that its top wind speed had increased at least 35 mph in the last 24 hours. Gov. Greg Abbott issued a disaster declaration for 32 counties in Texas on Saturday and requested a federal emergency disaster declaration request, which allows the federal government to provide ‘public assistance, direct financial assistance, and hazard mitigation assistance.'”
