More than forty Alabamans were infected with coronavirus at a church revival service where masks weren’t required last week at the Warrior Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Strawberry, Cullman County, according to Al.com.
“The whole church has got it, just about,” Pastor Daryl Ross said, and that includes himself. Ross said he has tested positive but has few symptoms.
The revival meeting, which featured a guest preacher, started Wednesday night. On Thursday morning, the pastor learned that one of the participants had tested positive after one of his coworkers was discovered with the virus.
“On the way back over Thursday is when we found out. I got a call that one of our guys in the church has tested positive,” Ross detailed. “So, we shut down revival and, by Friday night, I’ve got church members sick everywhere.”
While no parishioners have yet been hospitalized, others were immediately feeling symptoms of the virus. Only two male members’ cases were serious, he said. “One respiratory, he almost got put in the hospital, but he’s OK,” Ross said. “The other one fought it off with two days in bed.”
The initial patient continues to be asymptomatic.
