AMC Theaters announced Thursday that it will open 100 of its sites next week, following social distance and masking requirements, with ticket prices set at 15¢ each, the Washington Post reports.
Dubbing the promotion “2020 Movies at 1920 Prices,” the chain said that it will phase the opening of its multiplexes across the country in areas where the virus is under control. It hopes to open 300 locations by early September.
Workers and patrons will be required to wear masks, regardless of local regulations. The theaters will operate at 30% capacity at most, lower if local regulations demand it.
AMC closed its theaters five months ago, planning on a six-week shutdown. It has lost nearly $1 billion in revenue in the first quarter, and it warned investors that its corporate viability was in doubt with the continued coronavirus outbreak.
