Cindy McCain, the widow of Senator John McCain, reviewed the friendship her husband had with Joe Biden, with the two maintaining a civility and friendship even though they were from different parties.
The friendship started in the 1970s, when McCain served as a military liaison for the new Senator Joe Biden. McCain had been released from a POW camp in Vietnam prior to taking the role, which helped give Biden a perspective into the military.
“We’d always be willing, when we thought the other guy was right, to cross the aisle and lock arms for what was good for the country,” Biden was shown saying during a speech. “John and I have been given several awards for bipartisanship. We don’t understand why you should be awarded for bipartisanship.”
