With her doctorate in education, Dr. Jill Biden addressed the issues and frustration of parents and children experience with remote learning and food insecurity due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The convention broadcast an introductory video for Dr. Biden and how she met Joe Biden and came to be a member of the Biden after Joe lost his first wife and a daughter to a car accident.
The video featured staffers who worked with Dr. Biden during her stint as the nation’s Second Lady and her determination to continue teaching at a Northern Virginia community college while her husband was Vice President. It also addressed the loss of Beau Biden, Delaware’s former Attorney General and a military veteran, who died from brain cancer in 2015.
Cutting to a live shot of Dr. Biden in the high school where she started teaching, Dr. Biden, citing the divisions brought into the country from Trumpism, said that “our differences are precious and our similarities are infinite.”
Dr. Biden talked about the challenges families face, either through disease, economic distress or separation, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic.
“We haven’t given up. We just need leadership worthy of our nation…. worthy of you. Honest leadership to bring us back together,” Dr. Biden said. “He and Kamala will work as hard do to put this nation back together.”
At the end of her presentation, Joe entered the shot, “Hey everyone, I’m Jill Biden’s husband.”
“Just think of your favorite educator who gave you the confidence to believe in yourself,” Joe said. “That’s the kind of First Lady–lady, lady, LADY–Jill Biden will be,” emphasizing that Dr. Biden is a true lady.
