The United States hit a grim milestone Wednesday as fatalities due to the coronavirus exceeded 190,000, according to Reuters.
Other key virus trackers, including the well-respected Johns Hopkins CSSE dashboard, are poised for the US to top that benchmark today as well.
The US is ninth in the world in coronavirus fatalities per capita among nations with more than 100,000 in population, and the US leads the world in the number of cases of the coronavirus. The case fatality rate from the virus in the United States is in the bottom half of nations.
Recent hotspots have popped up around the United States due to states reopening businesses and schools without having previously controlled the spread of virus. The Sturgis motorcycle rally, in South Dakota, has also been traced to an increase in cases.
