Dr. Scott Atlas, the neuroradiologist with no background in virology, epidemiology or public health but is President Trump’s personal advisor on the coronavirus epidemic, stated on Fox “News” Friday that he expects Trump to make a full recovery from the coronavirus.
Claiming that Trump “always” took precautions to limit transmission of the virus–a statement contrary to facts–Atlas stated, “I anticipate a complete and full and rapid recovery back to normal after his necessary confinement period. I anticipate he’ll be back on the road and in full swing.”
It should be noted that Atlas is not Trump’s personal physician and has never examined Trump in a medical setting, either before or after Trump contracted the coronavirus.
Saying Trump “super vigorous man,” Atlas noted he has “never seen anyone with more energy and more vigor, at any age, but particularly at his age.”
“He is a very, very healthy guy,” Atlas said of the clinically-obese Trump, who famously favors fast food and Diet Cokes. “And the overwhelming majority of people, even at his age, do fine with this. He is very healthy, and so I anticipate the same for him.”
One person calling Atlas prognosis into doubt is Chris Wallace, the person who sat at the moderator’s table during Tuesday’s presidential debate. Speaking on Fox “News” later in the morning, Wallace noted Atlas has dubious credentials to make such statements.
“[Atlas] is not an epidemiologist, is not an infectious disease specialist. He has no training in this area at all,” Wallace stated. “There are a number of top people on the president’s coronavirus task force who have had grave concerns about Scott Atlas and his scientific bona fides.”
