In a head-spinning turn, President Trump declared during his stint as a disc jockey on the Rush Limbaugh show that he wants a bigger coronavirus than either Democrats or republicans are proposing, Politico reports.
Though Trump declared that he was canceling all coronavirus relief negotiations until after the election, he’s repeated retreated from that politically untenable position. “I would like to see a bigger stimulus package than, frankly, either the Democrats or the Republicans are offering,” Trump said during his turn as a radio talk show host.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin spoke by phone for more than 30 minutes today, with Mnuchin proposing a $1.8 trillion deal, slightly higher than their previous offer.
Democrats are looking for a $2.4 trillion deal that will include significant aid for state and local governments who are cash strapped due to reduced tax revenues. Trump has called this a non-starter because, he claims, it’s a bailout to poorly-run “Democrat cities.”
