Gisele Barreto Fetterman, the wife of Pennsylvania Lt. Governor John Fetterman, recorded a frightening incident at a Pittsburgh-area grocery store in which a woman ranted at her and called her a (n-word), the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
A philanthropist who set up services for families suffering from food insecurity, Barreto Fetterman was a one-time undocumented resident who came to the United States with her family from Brazil when she was 8 years old.
*TRIGGER WARNING* I love love love this country but we are so deeply divided. I ran to the local grocery store and was met by and verbally assaulted by this woman who repeatedly told me I do not belong here. The state’s Second Lady was in Braddock, Pennsylvania, a suburb east of Pittsburgh, for a quick stop in the market without her security detail when a woman walked up to her and unleashed a barrage of insults including “There’s that [n-word] that Fetterman married” and “you don’t belong here.”
Fetterman purchased her groceries and returned to her car, pulling out her cell phone as the same woman approached her car and continued her screed.
After driving away, Fetterman had to pull over because she was shaken and crying. “And then I called John after and I just cried for the rest of the night and allowed it to move through my system,” she said in an interview Monday. “But there is comfort in knowing this is not a majority feeling by any means.”
