The Hill has a pretty quirky profanity filter in their Disqus configuration. The usual suspects of words are blocked – the f-word, terms for both male and female anatomy, racial slurs, etc – but some plural and derivates are not – while others inexplicably are. Here’s a handy – though not all-encompassing – guide to what you can and cannot say there.
Shit and Bullshit are fine. However, you cannot say Shitty, Shits, Shitting, Shithead, or Dipshit for some reason. Strange how they let the original slide but not those others.
Spartan Pro Tip: Use Shitbrain or Shitdick as a replacement for Dipshit when you’re looking to cap off a witty rejoinder to a MAGA troll.
Fuck and its most common derivatives such as Fucking, Fucked, and Motherfucker are banned – and unfortunately the classic Fuckface is as well. Fuckin, Fuckup, Unfuck, and Clusterfuck however are not banned and always fun to use to pepper a comment.
Spartan Pro Tip: Fuck can be paired with any custom derivate you want. Pigfucker, Manfucker, Donkeyfucker are all green to go. Be creative!
Asshole is banned but the plural Assholes is not, for some reason. Same story with Dickhead/Dickheads, Shithead/Shitheads, Bitch/Bitches (past tense of verb Bitched is good, present tense Bitching is not), Queer/Queers (stupid since they put the word in articles all the time), Dildo/Dildos, and Butthole/Buttholes.
Spartan Pro Tip: You can circumvent the ban on Asshole by using a capital I instead of a lowercase L, but be warned – using that to address a Trump ballsucker directly was the reason for two separate month-long timeouts for me.
I’ve left out a lot, I don’t want to get too trashy – and this is already pretty trashy, but I hope you return to The Hill with a renewed and profane vigor next time you comment there!
