The Third First Lady asked a volunteer member of her staff to check with the Office of Management and Budget to see if there was any budget or allowances for former First Ladies, even though the First Lady does not get any salary while her husband is in office, CNN reports.
As she spent the past weeks tagging items in the White House to go into storage, to the Trump’s New York apartment or to Mar-a-Lago, Melania Trump has told those close to her that she “just wants to go home” and leave the Washington political scene. There was no specifics about what she considers home, and whether she considers “home” to include her husband.
Former First Ladies do not get any allowances or budgets to undertake enterprises once they leave the White House. The only funds available to them is a $20,000 annual allowance provided after her husband dies.
Melania is considering publishing a book after she leaves the White House, though those close to her say it will not be a memoir. Instead, she’s considering a picture book: a coffee-table book full of photos of the White House, concentrating on either the hospitality efforts or the design projects she undertook.
Barron, Donald Trump’s third son and Melania’s only child, will likely be pulled from the Maryland private school after President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration to finish school in Florida or New York.
Concerning a potential 2024 presidential run by her current husband, “That may not go over well” with Melania, sources say.
