Showing leadership when the country has been abandoned by the person holding the Oval Office, President-elect Joe Biden castigated lame duck president Donald Trump for abandoning his office and the American people, Politico reported.
Biden released a statement calling on Trump to due his duty and sign legislation that would provide aid to Americans who need unemployment benefits, rent relief, small business assistance and stimulus payments. “It is the day after Christmas, and millions of families don’t know if they’ll be able to make ends meet because of President Donald Trump’s refusal to sign an economic relief bill approved by Congress with an overwhelming and bipartisan majority,” Biden said. “This bill is critical. It needs to be signed into law now.”
Trump spent the last two days golfing at his Palm Beach golf course, just days after threatening to block the coronavirus relief bill passed by Congress after bipartisan negotiations. He claims he’s holding up the bill until stimulus payments are raised from $600 per person to $1,200.
Trump also expressed his desire to throw the country in chaos by vetoing the Defense Authorization Act and refusing to sign the omnibus spending bill. Without the omnibus spending bill, the government could face a drawn out shutdown.
Trump has spent his days tweeting blame for the situation on Democrats–who passed the HEROES Act in May–as well as continuing to blame his election loss on debunked conspiracy theories.
