In a letter to her House colleagues, Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said that she’ll seek to set up an “independent 9/11-type Commission” to investigate the January 6th domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol, according to Sahil Kapur of NBC News.
The Commision will “investigate and report on the facts and causes relating to the January 6th, 2021 domestic terrorist attack on the United States Capitol Complex… and relating to the interference with the peaceful transfer of power, including facts and causes relating to the preparedness and response of the United States Capitol Police and other Federal, State and local law enforcement in the National Capitol Region.”
Pelosi also noted that retired general Russel Honore continues to investigate ways to improve security in the Capitol after the lapses that led to insurrectionists violently gaining access to the building.
