According to the Johns Hopkins University coronavirus tracker, the United States on Monday afternoon surpassed half a million fatalities related to the year-long pandemic.
With its 4:24 p.m. ET update, the site shows 500,071 people in the United States have died from the coronavirus, more than double that of any other nation; Brazil is second with 248,000 fatalities. The US also has confirmed more than 28 million cases, more than 250% higher than the next nation on the list, India.
