Random thoughts Friday, Volume XV

  • Three mass shootings in seven days.  Is it still too soon to talk about gun control?
  • It’s been 100 days since the January 6th domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol and prosecutors have opened 400 cases against insurrectionists.  The first one took a plea deal Friday.  The dominos are starting to fall.
  • Dr. Fauci should have told Jim Jordan that he would be able to guess when we can lift restrictions after everyone in the nation wears a mask for six straight weeks, particularly the political leaders who should set the example for the public.  Jordan would’ve cried more that it restricts his freedums.
  • One man was shot and killed (reportedly albeit accidentally) for having a pine tree air freshener hanging from his rear view mirror, and an overdue fine.  Another was a US Army soldier who was in fear for his life after being pulled over for having a partially shaded temporary license plate in his window.  One’s dead; the other was harassed.  Such is driving while Black.
  • The truly sad thing about the Gutfeld! Show on Fox News is that the entire show is taped earlier in the day and cuts out bad bits… and that hunk of dung is *still* what they thought was best.
  • The confirmation that the Trump campaign was passing information to a Russian government agent isn’t really news, but it is verification that “Russian collusion” wasn’t a hoax.  That, however, will not stop the GOP from continuing to deny it.
  • ARod and JLo have split.  What in the world shall we do?  How will we survive?
  • While pulling the J&J vaccine from circulation is a blow to vaccination efforts.  But it goes to show this administration won’t do anything to jeopardize the health of the American people to chalk up something as a success.
  • It’s time for America to strike the name Falwell from public discourse.  It should have happened in 1974.
  • Mitch McConnell declared war on baseball.  Donald Trump declared war on Coke.  Next up:  apple pie and Chevrolet.  Many conservatives have already abandoned Ford for making an electric version of the Mustang.
  • Kudos to Congressman Dan Kildee of Michigan for going public with his PTSD diagnosis caused by the domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol January 6th.  It may help others understand how trauma impacts people.
  • Pancakes over french toast.  French toast over waffles.  And for breakfast sides, sausage AND bacon.
  • There’s one album that is integrally connected to you to the point that regardless of your mood, it always picks you up.  For me, it’s “Stop Making Sense” by Talking Heads.

And as Bartles & James used to say, “Thank you for your support.”
