MAGA-billy: “It’s cool I don’t have to wear a mask, I’ve had the vaccine.”

Store clerk: “Do you have your vaccine card?”

MAGA-billy: “Hey ya know, by law you can’t even ask me that, I’m totally vaxxed, it’s cool, I just forgot my card at home.”

MAGA-billy (who is not vaxxed) disappears into aisles of store, grinning to himself that he just “owned the libs” by going out un-vaccinated and without a mask, and the store clerk walks away thinking “I’m done.  I just don’t care anymore.”

The scenario described above will be playing out in coming weeks ad infinitum as Trump supporters who just don’t want to wear masks lie and get belligerent with store clerks over whether they should wear a face covering. The catch for many businesses is they don’t want their stores to become centers of new infections, and the people who are most likely to insist they don’t have to wear a mask are going to be those who are not vaccinated and are lying.  People who actually did get vaccinated are more likely to keep wearing masks because they know how many still aren’t vaccinated.

There will be huge spikes in Covid19 infection rates in predominately white rural areas where less than half of the population has had the vaccination but every single person you see out in public insists they don’t have to wear a mask because they’ve had their two jabs. Hospitals in rural counties will likely be overwhelmed by new cases, and in no time at all right-wing propaganda outlets like FOX and Newsmax will be insisting it’s a “Lib-Soros-Gates Foundation Conspiracy” that all of the liberals made Trump supporters refuse the vaccine by insisting that they should go out and get vaccinated to help protect themselves and their families.

I know it sounds cynical, but it’s inevitable at this point and it’s reached the point where it’s become Darwinian. If the MAGA faithful don’t want to get vaccinated, that’s their choice. If they end up taking the disease home to their families, then let them suffer the consequences of their actions and live with that guilt. One of the things that old timers in the program of AA learn is that there comes a point where you have to learn to stop trying to help people who don’t want help and prepare to start stepping over the bodies. If any conservative wants to whine and cry about those who are left of center ignoring their suffering, they have only themselves to blame.
