A video of Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (Q-Georgia) speaking to the Dalton (Georgia) City Council in the summer of 2020 has re-emerged, in which Greene says that she would object to the removal of statues of Hitler or “Satan himself” because it would be an effort to “take down history.”
Dressed casually in shorts and flip flops as she campaigned, Greene says statues honoring despicable figures should be preserved for educational purposes. “Whether I see a statue of, maybe, sumthin’ that I fully disagree with, like Adolf Hitler, maybe a statue of Satan himself, I would not want to say ‘Take it down,’ but again it’s so that I could tell my children and teach others about who these people are, what they did and what they were about.”
Greene apparently misses the point that you can teach about a subject or a person who did evil things without actually having a statue in a public place to honor the person. Oh, and that there are no statues honoring Hitler or Satan on public grounds in the United States.
Interestingly, the woman who has made a reputation for herself by being violent, insulting and vulgar opens her comments by saying “I think we should be working to come together and work further to keep things good and keep things in peace.” Apparently, that only applies when Donald Trump was in office.
