The Trump National Golf Club Colts Neck will pay a $400,000 fine to the State of New Jersey for overserving an obviously drunk golfer and dispensing alcoholic beverages other than beer from its portable beer carts, the Washington Post reports.
The fine stems from an incident on August 30, 2015 when then 34-year-old Andrew Halder flipped his car four miles from the Colts Neck club after drinking and golfing on the course. The accident killed Halder’s father, Gary Halder.
An investigation found that club staffers served an obviously-intoxicated Andrew Halder while he was on the course, including providing shots of liquor to the golfers.
The $400,000 fine amounts to 6.5% of the club’s total revenue in 2020. The settlement also allows the club and all Trump’s golf clubs to retain their liquor licenses, which could have been revoked by the New Jersey Liquor Commission. The Colts Neck club is now barred from serving, selling or allowing alcohol on the course and can only sell alcohol at its clubhouse.
The Trump Organization did not respond to a request from the Post for comment. They’re likely more concerned about other legal matters.
