Donald Trump admitted in his rally speech in Wellington, Ohio that he engineered the withdrawal from Afghanistan so that it would turn into a disaster for Joe Biden.
In a transcript of the speech provided by Rev.com, Trump declares at the 22:53 mark: “21 years is enough. Don’t we think? 21 years. They couldn’t stop the process. They wanted to, but it was very tough to stop the process when other things…yeah. Thank you. Thank you. It’s a shame. 21 years, by a government that wouldn’t last. The only way they last is if we’re there. What are we going to say? We’ll stay for another 21 years, then we’ll stay for another 50. The whole thing is ridiculous. So we’re bringing our troops back home from Iraq. We’re bringing troops come from Afghanistan. We brought them back home from Syria.”
A quick rundown of why this information is key: Donald Trump and Mike Pompeo both engaged in negotiations with the Taliban, and excluded the Afghan government. As part of those negotiations, Trump insisted on the release of 5000 Afghan fighters. The Afghan government repeatedly objected to releasing those fighters, but the Trump administration was insistent.
Trump’s comment: “It’s a shame. 21 years, by a government that wouldn’t last. The only way they last is if we’re there. What are we going to say? We’ll stay for another 21 years, then we’ll stay for another 50.” suggests that he and Pompeo expected that the Afghan government would fall, but instead of trying to shore up that government, and take steps to mitigate the military capacity of the Taliban, they chose to release 5000 Taliban fighters. reports indicate that there are around 80,000 Taliban fighters. That means the 5000 Taliban fighters represent a 6% increase in boots on the ground for the Taliban. That is a substantial increase in force for the Taliban, that should not be ignored by investigators.
What this ultimately means is that the Trump administration sought, from the outset, to sabotage US Military efforts in Afghanistan. They shut the current Afghan government out of the process, took steps that substantially increased the military capacity of the Taliban, and made no apparent effort to try to shore up the Afghan government that the US had sought to build over the course of the last twenty years. Pompeo even posted on Twitter that he was having private meetings with Taliban leaders. Trump and Pompeo should both be interrogated by Federal Agencies regarding why they chose the path that they did in Afghanistan. Those interrogations should include questioning regarding the possibility that Trump acted to help Vladimir Putin secure mining rights in Afghanistan. There is absolutely no question here that Trump and Pompeo’s actions appear to constitute a conspiracy to defraud the United States. The Biden Administration should also consider issuing a general subpeona to Donald Trump so that he may be interrogated on a regular basis regarding his motivations while in office, and bizarre secret deals that he may have struck with other authoritarian leaders besides Putin.
