The European Commission has proposed a new requirement that all devices – phones, cameras, tablets, and video game controllers – sold in the EU must use the USB-C charger, the Independent reports. This really kind of fucks things up for Apple and their proprietary Lighting cable used in iPhones, iPads, and that one mouse and likely means the change would be effected on future Apple devices sold worldwide and not just in those in the European Union.
Which is great because even though Lightning cables are ubiquitous now, it’d be even better if we could just stop having to keep separate ones handy for those of us in inter-mobile OS marriages. It also show how far we’ve come from the nightmarish era circa pre-2010 when every single flip phone model had its own different goddamned charger and you were screwed if you lost it.
