Cyber Ninjas, the Saratoga, Florida-based company that conducted a questionable recount of ballots in Maricopa County, Arizona at the behest of GOP state senators even though the company had no experience in conducting an election audit, has claimed it lost more than $2 million on the effort and is now refusing to turn documents over to the state senate.

According to Garrett Archer, the so-called “data guru” of KNXV ABC-15 in Phoenix, the Cyber Ninjas claim that the 300 records the senate has received from the company constitute the bulk of the information the senate is due, with the rest of the records being confidential information relating to business secrets of the company.  The Senate has previously said the records from Cyber Ninjas was an “insubstantial percentage” of relevant documents.

Earlier, the Cyber Ninjas released a simple balance sheet in which it claims it lost $2.125 million on the operation.  It’s revenue listing shows it $6.75 million:  $50,000 from the Arizona senate and the balance from private political action groups.   The company claims to have incurred $8.875 million in expenses, including $5.2 million in payroll expenses and $1.18 in depreciation expenses over the seven months the effort occurred.  Another half million dollars is listed as “travel expenses.”

The balance sheet also lists a line-item for $1 million as “income” but designated “third party payments to vendors.”  It provides no information on who made the payments or what vendors were paid.
