President Joe Biden will deliver a speech at the US Capitol, one year to the day after a horde of violent Trump fans stormed the building in a violent assault on democracy. Biden will specifically call out Trump for inciting the riot with his lies and hatred, per numerous reports. We have to admit is a bolder move than expected for Old Man Joe – the likable if boring and low key president we the people chose to end four years of madness and disgrace wrought by the Donald.
This is what needs to be remembered. Sure, Biden has been disappointing for a whole shit ton of reasons that we could go on all day about. In a vacuum he’s an excellent leader. Unfortunately we don’t live in a vacuum, we live in an era of unlimited savagery and malevolence. But still, it’s light years more preferable to complain that things could be better than knowing they’re far more likely to get worse. That is the promise he embodied then and still does now. Here’s hoping today marks the beginning of a counterattack against the forces of evil.
